UN TOURISM BEST TOURISM VILLAGES 2024 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
INTRODUCTION
UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Villages recognizes villages which are outstanding examples of a rural tourism destination with recognized cultural and natural assets, that preserves and promotes community-based values, products and lifestyle and has a clear commitment to sustainability in all its aspects, aligned with the framework of the UN Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
REQUIREMENTS
Applications are open to tourism villages which fulfill the following requirements:
- Low population density and a maximum of 15,000 inhabitants
- Located in a landscape with an important presence of traditional activities such as agriculture, forestry, livestock or fishing
- Share community values and lifestyle
AREAS OF EVALUATION
Applications will be assesed according to 9 areas of evaluation:
- Cultural and Natural Resources
- Promotion and Conservation of Cultural Resources
- Economic Sustainability
- Social Sustainability
- Environmental Sustainability
- Tourism Potential & Development and Value Chain Integration
- Governance & Prioritization of Tourism
- Infrastructure & Connectivity
- Health, Safety & Security
