THE ASEAN TOURISM RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT NETWORK FOR ECOTOURISM PROGRAMME 2024

PULAU PINANG, 28th JUNE 2024 - The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) successfully organised the ASEAN Tourism Resources Management and Development Network (ATRM) for Ecotourism Programme from 24th to 28th June 2024 in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.
The theme of ATRM 2024 is "Liveable Ecotourism" which focus on the partnership of ASEAN Member States collaboration in regenerating ecotourism, inspiring innovation and creativity, improving the standard of living of the community and promoting sustainability. This programme aims at exchanging Malaysia's experience and expertise on best practices in ecotourism, as well as to create a platform for discussion and engagement among ASEAN Member States delegates.
This year, 30 participants from ASEAN Member States, including Malaysia, took part in the 4-days event. In addition to the invited speakers' Knowledge Sharing Sessions, participants took part in experiential learning opportunities at The Habitat Penang Hill which demonstrates that public-private collaboration can be successful in developing natural assets such as green hills and 130-million-year-old rainforest into a high-value tourism attraction. Visits to Entopia and The Tropical Spice Garden as part of this programme provides participants with first-hand experience and exposure on the importance of invertebrates and edibles to the ecosystem and how
the two successful public-private collaborations had sustainably leverage their respective products such as butterflies and spices as ecotourism attractions.
ATRM 2024 aims to strengthen Malaysia's position as a leader in ecotourism in Southeast Asia by empowering human capital, sharing knowledge and experience, building collaborative relationships, and promoting the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 through featuring Malaysia's uniqueness as a top choice ecotourism destination. The ATRM 2024 was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of MOTAC. A Networking Dinner was hosted by YB Tuan Wong Hon Wai, Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy in conjunction with the ATRM 2024 being held in Penang.
MOTAC hopes that ATRM 2024 participants from ASEAN Member States had benefitted from Malaysia’s ecotourism experience and enabled the growth and spur of ecotourism products in the ASEAN region.
