MALAYSIA AND PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA SIGNED MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) ON COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF TOURISM AND EXECUTIVE PROGRAMME FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE AGREEMENT ON CULTURAL CO-OPERATION (2024-2029)
19th June 2024 – YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and H.E. Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China (PRC) to Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Co-operation in the Field of Tourism and Executive Programme for the Implementation of the Agreement on Cultural Co-operation (2024- 2029), during the official visit of H.E. Li Qiang, Premier of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia on 18 to 20 June 2024.The exchange of both Agreements took place during the Memorandum of Understanding Exchange Ceremony, witnessed by YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and H.E. Li Qiang, Premier of the People's Republic of China, at the Perdana Putra Building in Putrajaya. The signing of these two agreements are in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, celebrated in 2024, to further enhance synergies in the fields of culture and tourism between the two countries. Among the collaborations to be implemented by the two countries following the signing of the Executive Programme are the multinational nomination of the Lion Dance into UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity and Malaysia's membership in the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia (ACHA).
There will also be a special joint performance of the Hang Li Po Musical Theatre by the Malaysian Traditional Orchestra, Istana Budaya, with musicians from China. The signing of MoU in Tourism Cooperation will strengthen and further develop cooperation between Malaysia and China in tourism promotion and marketing, increase air connectivity connecting major tourism destinations in Malaysia and China, business tourism (MICE), as well as promotion and development of community-based tourism and eco-tourism. Malaysia and China will continue to intensify collaboration in the tourism and cultural sector towards the development of arts, culture, and heritage products and services through knowledge sharing and expertise exchange.
